Beginner Guitar Lessons

Beginner Guitar Lessons and First Principles

I find that with beginner guitar lessons focusing on the left hand is the easy part, the information goes across styles.  An e chord is and e chord in country, jazz, folk , blues and any style you wish to mention.  The right hand however is not so generic, it is the way you strum a guitar chord or pluck the strings that determine the style.

Needless to say everyone their particular individual tastes (Thank God), influenced by their upbringing, friends, media and a whole lot of other social and cultural factors.  So it is hardly surprising that everyone strums the guitar in their own particular way, like a musical fingerprint – your character and what people hear as you.

So in guitar lessons I am very hesitant to say you should strum it like this, I never ever want to inhibit or mould a students musical style.

What I am striving for are guitar basics, first principles which will apply to guitar playing regardless of style. Something the student can take home and explore in their own space.

In this site I mainly concentrate on beginner information; starting with beginner guitar chords, then taking these concepts further and finding a framework learning the neck of the guitar.

In private lessons I concentrate wholly on the student – that is what it is all about.  Finding exactly where the student is at and trying to find relevant and helpful information.
